SureWest suggests that you buy a cable/dsl router to place between your cable modem and your computing devices. This will allow you as a customer to place as many machine behind your cable modem that you see fit or is maximally supported by your cable/dsl router.
More importantly it will add a layer of protection between you and those trying to access your computer from the Internet.
